Panpastel Workshop | April 21 | 10 am – 4 pm

Come join the fun in this one day workshop to learn how Panpastels can be used in conjunction with traditional pastel and watercolor to create a painterly landscape. Professional artist/educator, Karen Israel, will demonstrate the array of techniques that can be achieved in painting with this exciting medium.  Students will learn how to create an underpainting or an entire landscape with Panpastel using their own photo references.  Additionally, students will learn how to mix colors to establish value and temperature relationships using sponges and applicators, much like paint. The workshop will include lots of personal critique from the instructor.  All levels are welcome.

The special qualities of PanPastel allow the artist to blend and apply dry color like fluid paint.

They are applied with sponges and applicator tools.   All PanPastel colors are made using a unique manufacturing process requiring minimal binder and fillers, resulting in rich, ultra soft and super-blendable colors.  These are professional artists’ quality soft pastels that come in a pan have the advantage of being ultra soft, highly pigmented, low dust and lightfast.

Participants will be allowed to use Panpastel palettes and sponges provided by the instructor and the manufacturer and the paper will be included in the cost.   Artists only need to bring a drawing board, watercolors and watercolor brushes and any traditional soft pastels that they have.

Karen Israel is a nationally recognized award winning pastel artist living in Hartford, CT.  Her work can be found on www.artbykarenisrael.com
