Hartford Fashion Week Panel & Reception | April 23 | 6 – 8:30 pm
Please join UConn’s School of Fine Arts and Hartford Fashion Week for a panel, discussing the history, identity and culture around dress and clothing.
Culture & Community through Attire: In a global market of fast fashion, our panelists will discuss the ways in which individuals can reject mass consumption and choose adornment to reflect personhood, champion diversity, and celebrate culture. In a tense political climate, personal fashion can be used to express statements, communicate ideas, and cultivate dialogue that can encourage community engagement and progress.
Moderator: Dean Anne D’Alleva, School of Fine Arts
Panelists: Christina Lorraine Bullard, Assistant Professor of Costume Design
Brandy S. Culp, Richard Koopman Curator of American Decorative Arts, Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art
Frank Mitchell, Executive Director, The Amistad Center for Art & Culture, Wadsworth
