IMMERSIVE THEATRICAL DINING EXPERIENCE THIS JULY AT MELANIE CARR GALLERY
Join Melanie Carr, Owner/Director at Melanie Carr Gallery, and international performance artist Kate March for a theatrical dining experience titled Joy Girl. For two nights only, July 13 & 14 at 8 p.m., this immersive performance will evoke the liberated and controversial spirit of the 1920s American flapper, offering guests a chance to travel back in time for a captivating night of food, wine, and art.
By using sound, fashion, dance, and food, March—along with co-choreographers Karina Ikezoe and Mary Sherwin—will explore 1920s America, tapping into the era’s newfound curiosity of pushing boundaries and pursuing joie de vivre (or, “the enjoyment of life”). The Roaring Twenties were an era of social, artistic, and cultural dynamism that established modernity and broke traditions in the aftermath of World War I, particularly with women. March’s performance will reveal how dance has evolved as an emblematic role in the story of women’s liberation, exposing the controversies and implicit narratives of the quintessential flapper.
Connecticut-born Kate March is a self-described “multi-hyphenate artist and entrepreneur” who has performed extensively in the United States and abroad. Her work has been described as visionary, interactive, provocative, and powerfully bold. March is the Founder and Creative Director of the all-female international creative collective I AM, in which she develops revolutionary performance concepts, redefines dinner entertainment, and performs across the world, including her newest venture: Joy Girl. She is currently living and working between Hong Kong and New York City.
Ambitious to celebrate innovative, contemporary artists, Carr is thrilled to offer her Gallery as a venue for March’s latest performance. She said, “Art happens in all manners, awakens all the senses, and stimulates our thoughts and imaginations. The gallery is the perfect setting to inject the spirit of live performance and make for a truly interactive and immersive experience.”
This event is the inaugural performance of Joy Girl in the United States. It will occur on Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14 from 8-10 p.m. at Melanie Carr Gallery. Tickets are $100 per person; food and wine included. Seating is limited. To register, please contact Melanie Carr at [email protected].
