Night Fall features music, dance, theater, spoken word, costume and lead artist Anne Cubberly’s signature giant puppets. Cubberly, along with community leaders Steve Mitchell and LB Muñoz, hires some of the region’s most talented and active artists, performers and technical specialists for the core of this professional production. This year’s Night Fall is Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Pope Park in Hartford.
Come early for extra Night Fall Fun! Grounds open at 2 pm in the field adjacent to the performance area. Shop with the Market vendors, make Art, enjoy Side Shows, and purchase food from various local Food Trucks. Bring a blanket or chair to sit on for the performance, which starts promptly at 6 pm.
In the weeks leading up to Night Fall, free art workshops will be held across the city of Hartford. Night Fall artists work with residents in their neighborhoods to design and create lanterns that are the centerpiece of the performance. Hartford communities are a featured part of Night Fall.
Night Fall honors the diversity of Hartford residents young and old by fostering relationships through creative and expressive sharing and learning. Night Fall highlights the wealth of artistic talent in the Greater Hartford region by collaborating with local artists, performers and craftspeople.
In the idyllic setting of Pope Park and autumnal surroundings, Night Fall probes the mysteries of seasonal transition and change. The evening’s climax, a final ritual procession of lanterns, symbolizes an ending of the fall season and a welcoming to the winter season soon to come. In this way, Night Fall is a festival of theater, pageantry, movement and music as well as a uniquely Hartford celebration of nature, our shared history and most importantly, our community.
Attend one of our pre-show workshops , volunteer to help the night of the event or reserve a blanket or a first row chair for a front row seat at one of Hartford’s most magical evenings!
Our good friend and board member, Chion Wolf, made this wonderful video with pictures and interviews with children about their favorite parts of Night Fall. Enjoy!
