Double Trouble | May 24 – July 11

Madison Art Cinemas is pleased to present, ‘Double Trouble’ a two person art show featuring new work of Amira and Imani Brown.  The show will run from May 24th -July 11th at Madison Art Cinema on 761 Boston Post Road in Madison, CT.  Amira and Imani Brown are identical twin sisters, and though their work is varied in approach and subject, viewers will enjoy the various modes of mark making as well as a shared bright color palette, depicting 2 different narratives.

Imani presents an abstracted lens to view family dynamics seen through childhood .Through the use of nature based shapes she explores the complex development of family as one grows and how like nature family is not a single entity but a complex network of individual subjects influencing each other , growing either in tandem or in competition.

In Harlequinade Americana, Amira takes the traditional characters of the British comic genre and re-imagines them as complex beings in a nonlinear narrative. We follow a story of Harlequin and Colombina and their stalwart struggles against Pantaloon and his servant Pierrot, to be together. Starting off as political series, the work eventually becomes an investigation of symbols and meanings within the characters of the story.

Through this brief gallery exhibit, we hope you can appreciate the small glimpse of the worlds these two sisters offer for you to engage with. Amira is a graduate of Paier College of Art where Imani is still attending for Illustration.
