Fun with Lines, and Amy Browning’s, Island Musings at Kehler Liddell Gallery | May 31 – July 1

Two abstract artists create space for joy and ease.

Kehler Liddell Gallery presents: Robert Bienstock’s, Fun with Lines, and Amy Browning’s, Island Musings, with an opening reception on Saturday, June 9th, 3-6 pm, beginning with an artist talk with Robert Bienstock at 2:30pm. The closing event on Sunday, July 1st will feature an artist talk with Amy Browning at 2:30 pm, reception to follow 3-6 pm.

Robert Bienstock “uses near-parallel lines to explore theoretical spaces – spatial, mathematical, emotional and philosophical.” His most recent body of work, however, takes a more playful look at art-making, “reflecting [the artist’s] journey over the past 18 months to find a larger and more colorful platform … to give the lines more space to breathe.” This space to breathe, to have fun, is one we can all use, especially now, and creates a moment of retreat that art can offer.

Simultaneously, Amy Browning leads us to an island retreat, presenting a collection of works reflecting somber, yet peaceful reflections on the average day on an island. Browning states: “change is the leit-motif of island existence, with the ever-present elements of wind, calm, heat, cold, tides, bloom, decay, and the daily orbit of the sun.” Taking ease in the ebb and flow of the natural elements, Browning’s work offers the viewer a sense of calm amidst moments of chaos.

Amy Browning has painted for over thirty-five years. After receiving her BA from the University of Toronto, her arts education continued with seminars and workshops at Yale University, Silvermine Arts Center, and Vermont Studio School. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhbitions including: New Canaan Society for the Arts (CT); New Canaan Library; Wilton Art Gallery; and Galerie du Soleil, (Norwalk, CT). Her work is held in private collections in the United States, Mexico, France and Canada, including: The Whitney Center, Bankers Trust, Deutsche Bank, and Watson Wyatt Worldwide.

Robert Bienstock is based in New Haven, Connecticut. His work has been exhibited at River Street Gallery in Fair Haven CT; Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition in Red Hook Brooklyn (Certificate of Recognition); Catalyst Gallery in Beacon NY; City Lights Gallery in Bridgeport CT; offices at 2 Whitney Grove Square and Janney Montgomery Scott in New Haven CT and the NE Medical Group building in North Haven; as well as at New Haven’s City Wide Open Studios. When not creating lines, he provides in-house legal support to Yale University’s research scientists, negotiating contracts and handling compliance issues.   www.Robertbienstock.com
