TONGUE IN CHEEK – Mystic Museum of Art | September 28 – November 10
TONGUE IN CHEEK is a solo exhibition of the work of Bryan Gorneau, an award-winning sculptor and mixed media artist from the Connecticut shoreline. Gorneau plays with events and visuals of pop culture, incorporating elements of traditional Americana like famous images, photographs, street signs, and historic headlines to invite the viewer to rethink various cultural concepts and the status quo. Gorneau is a graduate of both the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts and the Central Wyoming College Welding Program, and apprenticed with renowned local sculptor Gilbert Boro. A member of Gallery One and frequent contributor to juried shows at MMoA, Gorneau has shown at various venues throughout the country, including the Hygienic Art Gallery in New London, CT; the Art Spot International Art Fair in Miami, FL; and most recently in the Hoxie Gallery at the Westerly Public Library.
Please join us for the opening reception for both TONGUE IN CHEEK and the 40th Photo Show next Thursday, October 4th, from 5:30 to 7pm.
About Mystic Museum of Art
Mystic Museum of Art, a part of the Connecticut art scene for 100 years, is a place where culture, tradition, and the charm of small town New England converge. Founded in 1913 by a group of prominent artists rooted in the philosophy of the 19th century French landscape painters, Mystic Museum of Art today serves as an arts and culture center for southeastern Connecticut. Key figures in MMoA’s early history include Charles H. Davis, founder of the Mystic Art Colony, and Henry Ward Ranger, who founded the art colony at Old Lyme but later moved to Noank village, one town over from Mystic, and began exhibiting at Mystic Museum of Art.
