Dearest of Spirits: True Stories of Spiritualism at Hill-Stead | October 31 | 7 – 9 pm

Dearest of Spirits is a one-hour performance and discussion about Theodate Pope Riddle’s pursuits in the world of “psychical research.” Based on materials and artifacts from the Hill-Stead collection, Theodate will be portrayed in “first-person ghost” by interpretive artist, Kandie Carle.

The program will include Hill-Stead’s Archives “Medium,” Sharon Stotz, who will set the context for the true stories about Theodate’s encounters with spiritual mediums and her personal interest in this scientific pursuit.

During this special Halloween performance, visitors to Hill-Stead’s period rooms will enter the realm of “automatic writing,” trances and spirits that captivated Theodate’s intellect and imagination.

A special Q&A session immediately after the program sets the stage for viewing the special exhibition featuring artifacts from Theodate’s sessions with mediums in the historic home’s libraries.
